NDCWales Presents

Kin

February - May 2020

KIN is dance that connects us

It brings people, families, friends, clubs, teams, tribes and communities together.

NDCWales performs poetry, sport and identity across three powerful pieces of dance.

Lunatic by Nigel Charnock, is an energetic riot. It is fun, relevant and fired up. It smashes together vintage fashion and music (such as Glen Miller’s Moonlight Serenade) with 90’s pop-culture.

The piece is heavily influenced by the 1950s with costumes that capture that fascinating decade just after the war, filled with much unrealised hope of better times and prosperity”

                                                                                Nigel Charnock

Lunatic is fueled by questions surrounding nationality, gender and class, and was first created for NDCWales 10 years ago: it has been revived because it’s clear the world needs to experience dance like this again.

2067: Time and Time and Time is elegant.

Dancers reveal a shimmering poem about the relationship between the history of time and the poetry of destiny.

It’s choreographed by Alexandra Waierstall, who was born in England, raised in Cyprus and now lives in Germany. Waierstall creates dance that moves groups of bodies with a strong sense of musicality and a poetic physicality; and in this new work for NDCWales explores ideas of different types and perceptions of time.

Rygbi: Yma / Here by NDCWales Artistic Director Fearghus Ó Conchúir is uplifting: full of hope, glory and camaraderie. It celebrates the pride and passion that rugby players and fans experience together.

Rygbi was created with players and fans of the game to really reflect the national sport and was first premiered at the Eisteddfod 2019, it has since been toured alongside the Rugby World Cup in Japan as well as across Wales.

Tour Programme

Inspired by dreams, nightmares and the moon. "When people look at the word Lunatic they think of madness, so they are prepared for anything that can happen on stage."

Rugby is a game that connects different communities across the country and in an international arena where Welsh bodies perform with power, passion and skill.
