Poetry and dance collaboration

National Dance Company Wales and Literature Wales

Deadline Date
Friday, July 17, 2020 - 9:00

Working Title: Plethu/Weave (TBC)

Introduction

National Dance Company Wales and Literature Wales are working in collaboration to commission fresh short form content fusing dance and poetry from across Wales.

This project is already underway with NDCWales’ dancers; and the Company are now calling for expressions of interest from 2 Independent dance artists to each work in collaboration with a poet to
create a film, up to 90 secs in length, based on the loose theme of ‘harmony’. The poem will be written in the Cynghanedd form, in any language relevant to Wales, and the dance will consist of a corresponding solo.

Each dance artist and poet pairing would form their own creative process - defining how dance and poetry relate and are expressed in the film. Work will be conducted from home or immediate surroundings, and in accordance with Welsh Government advice. Collaboration with poets will be via online,
telephone and/or socially distanced. Please advise NDCWales if this will be an obstacle for you to participate in the project so we may assess support.

Please note:
Video editing can be provided, and NDCWales will endeavour to assist with technology where required. Films may be shot on mobile devices as long as the output sits at 720p or above.

Licensing: Following the premiere, the film will remain on all channels for people to view at leisure. The films will have a license of 1 year from date of premiering, meaning that the Company reserves the right to host and screen the films for a year from the premiere date. If the Company wishes to extend this, it will negotiate individually with poet and dancer to allow it to do so.
