Zoetrope

Autumn 2024

Schools performances

Zoetrope is our hour long show for schools and families
Our performance package includes free lesson plans covering points across the cirriculum.

Schools in Wales can access (almost) free travel and tickets to Zoetrope through the Arts Council Wales Go & See fund.

Zoetrope is touring across Wales and the UK in Autumn 2024, scroll down for dates.

Dance is one of the five disciplines of the Expressive Arts Area of Learning and Experience – and is an artform that can be used to motivate and encourage learners to develop their creative, artistic and performance skills, as well as assisting coordination, numeracy and physical education.

We can help!

National Dance Company Wales are Wales’ experts in dance and want to share that knowledge with the nations teachers so that everyone has the chance to dance.
NDCWales is teaming up with legendary choreographer Lea Anderson MBE who is known for brilliantly enjoyable performances, to make dance especially for Wales’ children.

How?

NDCWales are performing an hour long show named ‘Zoetrope’ which is inspired by early animation and the spirit of the fairground. The stage will be flooded with illusions and exhilarating movement patterns performed by magical creatures. The event will be a visually exciting, inspirational and enriching experience for learners aged 7-11.
The last 15 minutes includes a chance to learn some moves from the show from their seats.

costumes that look like a sceintific drawing of protons

dancers in monkey masks dance, legs in the air

How else?

Teachers attending Zoetrope will be provided with resource packs including lesson plans, to use before and after the performance so that young people can attend with confidence and discuss their thoughts afterwards.

Resource packs will be available to work into various subjects such as P.E., English, Welsh, Art, Science and History so that you need not find time for additional activity.

Teachers looking to incorporate more dance into their Expressive Arts lessons can also book a workshop in your school taught by NDCWales’ dance experts.

But how much does it cost?

We want to make dance affordable for all, ticket price changes depending on the venue, but all tickets are under £10.

However, for schools in Wales the Arts Council of Wales will cover up to 90% of the cost of attending.

The Arts Council of Wales Go & See grant can provide funding for both tickets and travel to high-quality arts events – you’ll just need to sign up and apply – NDCWales can help guide you through this process.
