Jo Fong: Artist Research Commission We’re thrilled to welcome Jo Fong back to National Dance Company Wales this week for our first Artist Research Commission, which is supported by the Garrick Charitable Trust. These commissions are for artists to research practice and concepts within the specific context of a repertory dance company, and to deepen their creative relationship with company. “Jo is part of the creative legacy of the company, I am delighted to welcome her back for this first Artistic Research Commission. ARC creates the conditions for artistic risk taking, with each commission shaped in dialogue with the engaged artist. My hope is they act as a catalyst for artistic dialogue and innovation.” Matthew William Robinson, Artistic Director NDCWales "Dancing moving listening bopping.” “It’s been a while since I’ve been in the studio with NDCWALES. For me it’s a chance to re-meet, re-engage with the dancers through my creative practice. I’m not over planning I’ll be doing, playing, rummaging, seeing if a something occurs that inspires me, seeing if a seed emerges that we might want to pick up on later down the line. I’m delighted that I can bring some guests for the first day. What a treat" Jo Fong ARC (artist research commissions) are part of our multi-strand artist development programme PLAY – to be revealed later this year. As a repertory dance company PLAY seeks to deepen NDCWales’ dialogue with the interconnected dance ecology of Wales through an evolving programme of work over the years ahead.
