National Dance Company Wales announces new Artistic Associates NDCWales is pleased to announce June Campbell-Davies and Osian Meilir as the Company’s new Artistic Associates. The NDCWales Artistic Associates programme is a catalyst to support Welsh and Wales based dance makers, and the development of dance as an artform. June Campbell-Davies is a Cardiff Based dancer, choreographer and Carnival Artist. June is involved in many collaborations and outreach projects across Wales and leads movement classes for Oasis One World Choir. “I’m finding different ways to continue my practice as a performer and choreography is an extension of my creativity...like leaving footprints in space...I’m just really excited about working with NDCWales on this Journey.” Osian Meilir is a performer, dance-maker and movement artist based in Wales. Meilir’s work as a performer has seen them working with a variety of artists and companies across the UK. They premiered their first mid-scale production - ‘Qwerin’, as director and choreographer in 2021. “I am thrilled to have been selected as an Artistic Associate of NDCWales. I look forward to develop new relationships through this role, alongside developing my movement and choreographic practice with the support of the company - it's a very exciting time for me!” Over two years the Artistic Associates will engage with the company on a number of projects across areas, while the company commits to supporting the selected artists in developing their own independent projects. Together the Artistic Associates and NDCWales Artistic Director Matthew Robinson will develop a bespoke programme of support that harnesses the resources of the company, considering the interests of the artist, alongside the values and the strategic priorities of the company - the aim being to share knowledge, build understanding, and work together to advance dance as an art form. “The association is envisaged as one of mutual curiosity and enquiry, the desired relationship is developmental and transformational for both parties.” says Matthew Robinson, Artistic Director. “Through the relationship, both NDCWales and the Artistic Associates will seek to develop, learning from each other's distinct expertise, supporting each other through projects of mutual interest.” Due to the high standard of expressions of interest received, NDCWales also decided to commission Daisy Howell to a produce a new work to be performed at the Dance House next year, as part of a thrilling evening of four, brand-new ten-minute dance works created by Welsh or Wales based choreographic artists. The dancers of National Dance Company Wales will dive into the choreographic worlds of these three artists, the two new Artistic Associates and Daisy Howell while our Young Associates will present a new work by our Artistic Director Matthew Robinson. “It is an exciting year ahead for NDCWales as we emerge from the pandemic. We have our sights set firmly on the future. I am thrilled to be working with our Artistic Associates, to support their artistic enquiry and to welcome their ideas and perspectives into our performance and engagement programmes.” Left: June Campbell-Davies (Photo: Ffion Campbell-Davies) Right: Osian Meilir (Photo: Anest Roberts)
