National Dance Company Wales appoints four new trustees

National Dance Company Wales is delighted to announce the appointment of four new trustees. Cathryn Allen, Martin Hylton, Krystal S. Lowe and Tupac Martir join the board with immediate effect and will help guide the company as it emerges from the challenges of Covid 19.

Cathryn Allen brings 27 years' experience in several roles within the BBC to the board and now runs her own company, Creating Answers, as a leadership consultant. She is also an executive coach working across the public, third and private sectors, and is a mentor for Women in Film & Television UK. Cath will also expand the number of Welsh speaking voices on the board.

Martin Hylton is high profile leader in the dance community. After a career as a dancer working across Europe, Martin has worked and performed with various companies in the UK, including Phoenix Dance Theatre, and has seen him build strong connections within the industry. Martin is founding Artistic Director/CEO of Gateway Studio, a dance and arts charity based in the heart of Gateshead Town Centre.

Bermuda-born, Wales-based dancer, choreographer, and writer Krystal S. Lowe has had an extensive career performing and touring with Ballet Cymru throughout the United Kingdom, China and Bermuda, with Citrus Arts circus company and Ransack Dance Company. She is also an associate lecturer at the University of South Wales and Artistic Director of Kokoro Arts Ltd.

Tupac Martir is an Artist and the Founder of Satore Studio. He’s a multimedia artist whose work spans the fields of technology, lighting, projection and video, sound design, music, and composition, as well as choreography and costumes. Vogue has described him as ‘the visual designer and creative director behind some of the most important events in the world’.

Diversifying who sits on the board of trustees is one of NDCWales’ main aims to address inequality in the organisation, in the arts and in Wales. The four new members join existing trustees Jane McCloskey (Chair), Eleanor Chapman, Giovanni Basileti, Huw Davies and William James. They bring with them a breadth of backgrounds and experiences which will help the Company better reflect the communities it works with.
