Primary School

For Primary Schools

Our dance workshops are ideal for all ages as a fun and engaging way to develop confidence, communication, creativity, critical thinking and improve cultural awareness.

Our workshops can be tailored to your groups needs, abilities, age and interest  and can be delivered at your school or choice of venue. We can run workshops bespoke to your groups needs. A standard workshop includes:

  • Warm up session which is relevant to the level of curriculum or area of study or interest.

  • Learn a piece of dance.

  • Workshop is connected to the themes of the current rep.

Workshops are led by NDCWales’ skilled, professional dance ambassadors.

Zoetrope workshop 2023/24

A fun and playful workshop for you to unleash your creativity through dance.

Join us for an exciting and creative dance workshop based upon the work of National Dance Company Wales. Designed specifically for young people and inspired by early animation and the spirit of the fairground, our new dance production ‘Zoetrope’ choreographed by Lea Anderson will be sure to get you excited. In our workshops we’ll dive into the creative world of the choreography, get our bodies moving and take creative inspiration from illusion and play. The workshops are a moment for us to express, develop self-confidence, build body awareness and to feel inspired.

We will happily co-design the workshop with you, bringing together what we know, what we’re excited about and what we need to inspire young people and get them moving. If your school is also attending a performance, then we will shape the content so that your learners’ experience of attending the performance is enriched, and the connection to the choreography and its themes ignited before coming to a show.

Workshop length

We recommend your Dance workshop to be 60 minutes.

If your school requires a shorter or longer workshop, or a series of workshops, please contact us to discuss your specific needs and we will do our best to accommodate.

We can also offer two workshops in one half day or more in a full day so long as our dance artists have a short break between each.

Cost

£150 for one workshop

£225 for two workshops of 45 or 60min each in one half day

£300 for three workshops of 45 or 60min each in one full day

Reviews

"The workshop was fab! Staff were really pleased at the way Elena and Oliver engaged with the pupils, particularly our resource base pupils. More boys participated enthusiastically in the workshop than potentially they would in a standard dance lesson which for us is a huge thumbs up! It was a definite success and the pupils were so excited to go home and tell/show parents the skills they had learned. Please pass on our thanks to both, the pupils loved them and want to know when they are returning for lesson number two."

Pentrebane Primary School, Cardiff

“The children loved the workshop and loved the fact that they knew part of the dance that was to be performed. They enjoyed performing their dances and really worked hard. The performance we thought was spectacular! The children were mesmerised throughout. It really inspired the children, so much so that we are going to develop the work they did in the workshop to create our own version to perform to the rest of the school. Thanks again for a lovely experience.”

Whitestone Primary School, Swansea

"I had some wonderful feedback from the class teachers concerned. All were delighted with the group behaviour management. We were especially happy that our boys were enjoying the session too -it’s been hard trying to get them into dance club. Our deputy head commented that she now felt a bit more confident teaching dance as part of PE."

Allensbank Primary School, Cardiff

However, the Arts Council of Wales will cover up to 90% of the cost.
