NDCWales Presents

Open Rehearsals

1 hour

During the creation process you can pop in for an hour and discover what we have been working on in the rehearsal.

You can see the choreographer and dancers in action creating new dance pieces, taking some of the mystery out of how we make our shows and giving a real behind-the-scenes taste.

You’ll also get to ask questions at the end. You’re welcome to sketch or simply soak in the rehearsal.

Join us for an Open Rehearsal at the Dance House, Wales Millennium Centre – home of National Dance Company Wales.
Get a behind the scenes look at how dance is made as we open the rehearsal room doors to the public.

Open Rehearsals 2024

"Later this year (2024) we have a new double bill of dance work touring across the UK and internationally. One of those works will be made by Australian/Javanese artist Melanie Lane, whose own work has never been seen in the UK before. The other half of the evening will be created by me.

I am delighted to be bringing together a collaborative team of exceptional artists, including our company dancers, renowned music producer Torben Sylvest, Welsh costume designer and visual artist George Hampton Wale and Welsh lighting designer Emma Jones.

The work is called AUGUST, and here is a peek at some writing I have been developing for our programme to share with audiences."

AUGUST Open Rehearsal with Matthew William Robinson

Wednesday 22 May 6-7pm

Join Matthew Robinson as he creates the next work for National Dance Company Wales named AUGUST.

"As the sun set everything changed."

AUGUST is inspired by sunsets. A moment between day and night. A space between routine and release, restraint and recklessness. AUGUST is about endings and saying goodbye. It is about the changes that fling us together and tear us apart.

Bathed in the fading colours of dusk and the neon accents of night, the National Dance Company Wales dancers navigate a sensual landscape that shifts between the perilous and the beautiful.

Melanie Lane

Skinners Open Rehearsal with Melanie Lane
Wednesday 24 July 6-7pm

Join Melanie and our dancers in creation for a new dance work addressing how new technological interfaces between humanity and the digital world are radically altering the experience we have of our bodies. Drawing on theories of the 'Uncanny Valley' (the eerie replication of human likeness) SKINNERS navigates a world where human bodies slip between flesh and illusion, fact and fiction.

National Dance Company Wales are a charity who aim to make dance available to everyone in Wales, as such you can attend this event for free, and are welcome to do so.

If however you are able to pay-what-you-feel towards a ticket to this event, you’ll be helping NDCWales to continue to enrich the lives of others through dance.

If attending either for free or by paying-what-you-feel, please book a ticket so that we know you're coming as seats are limited
