Boram Kim Catachory Production Info 34 minutes "Catachory," is a word that Boram Kim made up to mean an "invisible light," - something that all life possesses and that shines within us all. For him, it's both the origin of all life, as well as something very personal. In Catachory, Kim worked with the dancers to ask: "How can we interpret the light?" "Why do we live and move?" The resulting performance is an attempt to find the light within themselves by using the body to explore and to feel the "Catachory" which all of us have that makes us shine from within. "This performance is an attempt to find the light within myself and that of all through understanding and exploration of the body and to feel "catachory" which all of us have, had and will have, thereby making ourselves shine.” Catachory was part of Wales Connection Korea: a collaborative project between Wales and South Korea which pairs a Welsh choreographer with Korean dancers and a Korean choreographer with Welsh dancers culminating in double-bill performances in Seoul, November 2023. In October 2023 Welsh Choreographer Anthony Matsena worked eight dancers from Korea National Contemporary Dance Company (KNCDC) making a new work called ‘Canned Meat’, whilst Korean powerhouse choreographer Boram Kim spent three weeks in Wales working with dancers from National Dance Company Wales making Catachory. The double bill was then performed in Korea at Seoul Arts Centre to sold out audiences across 3 nights. Kim intends to choreograph works based on the unique interpretation of music, returning to the "sound before music" and the "body before dance." This new attempt makes it possible to connect to audiences more closely and deeply within the harmony of specific music and dance.
